Global technology leader ABB has entered into a strategic agreement with Swedish startup Syre to pioneer textile-to-textile recycling. This collaboration focuses on establishing a sophisticated production facility in Gia Lai province, Vietnam. By leveraging advanced industrial automation, the partnership aims to convert polyester waste into high-quality recycled materials. Furthermore, this initiative addresses the critical global challenge of textile waste through scalable, circular production methods.

Advancing Circularity Through Chemical Depolymerization

Syre utilizes advanced chemical recycling techniques, including depolymerization and polymerization, to process used textiles. Unlike mechanical recycling, this method maintains the structural integrity of the polyester fibers. Therefore, the resulting recycled polyester serves as a direct substitute for virgin fossil-based inputs. This process significantly lowers the environmental footprint of garment production. Moreover, it ensures that valuable synthetic materials remain within a closed-loop system rather than reaching landfills.
