It acts as the core of an independent emergency trip system. It monitors turbine speed and provides emergency overspeed protection, operating separately from the primary control system to ensure a fail-safe shutdown.
It operates on a 125 V DC nominal supply. It generates its own internal 5 V DC and 28 V DC for onboard logic and relay operations.
The system supports up to three trip solenoids. These are connected between TREG and TRPG terminal boards, which the VPRO manages through 12 relays using 2-out-of-3 voting logic.
