Product Description

The 1769-PB2 is a high-efficiency DC power supply module for the Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and MicroLogix 1500 platforms. It provides crucial power distribution for expansion I/O modules when the controller's internal power is exceeded. The module can power up to 16 I/O modules (8 on each side), supporting both 5V DC and 24V DC backplane power.

Operating on a 24V DC input, it converts field power to regulated 5V DC and 24V DC. It is built for industrial resilience with inrush current capacity and fuse protection to safeguard downstream modules from electrical surges. Its compact, fanless design is ideal for tight spaces, and it can be mounted vertically or horizontally on DIN rails or panels.

Industrial Application Scenarios

The 1769-PB2 is commonly used in distributed I/O systems where I/O modules are located far from the main controller or in secondary I/O banks. It is especially valuable in systems with high-density analog modules or specialty modules requiring significant backplane current, ensuring stable voltage across the entire bus.

Engineering FAQ

  • Can this power supply be used as the primary power for a CompactLogix CPU?
No, the 1769-PB2 is an expansion I/O power supply. The L3 series processors require a dedicated power supply (e.g., 1769-PA2 or PB2) depending on rack configuration.

  • Does it provide isolation between the input and the backplane?
Yes, the 1769-PB2 offers reinforced insulation between the 24V DC input and the backplane, ensuring field noise does not affect the controller’s operations.

  • What happens if the internal fuse blows?
If the fuse blows, the module will stop providing power to the backplane, causing the connected I/O modules to go offline. The fuse is user-replaceable, but a blown fuse may indicate a short circuit or overloaded power budget downstream.
