Product Description

The 5464-648 is a high-density, precision 8-channel analog output module from Woodward, Inc., designed for the MicroNet turbine control platform. It provides eight fully isolated 4–20 mA DC output channels, acting as the interface between digital control algorithms and field actuators such as fuel valves and positioners.

Using high-resolution digital-to-analog conversion (minimum 12-bit), the module delivers smooth, stable control signals essential for maintaining tight turbine speed and fuel flow tolerances.

Engineered for harsh power generation environments, the 5464-648 supports an extended operating range from -40°C to +70°C. Each channel includes individual fault detection for open-loop and wiring diagnostics, enabling real-time monitoring by the main controller. Its compact footprint and efficient power profile make it ideal for expanding I/O capacity in MicroNet and MicroNet Plus systems without increasing cabinet space or cooling demand.

Application

The 5464-648 is widely used in:

  • Gas turbine governor systems

  • Steam turbine control racks

  • Fuel valve and actuator positioning

  • Variable Inlet Guide Vane (VIGV) control

  • Water injection and auxiliary flow regulation

Its wide temperature tolerance and channel-level isolation make it suitable for both control room installations and outdoor-mounted enclosures in power plants and heavy industrial sites.

FAQ

Q1: Does the 5464-648 support 0–20 mA or voltage outputs?
No. This model is hardware-optimized for 4–20 mA current loops. Voltage output requires a different module variant or an external signal converter.

Q2: Is it compatible with MicroNet Plus (TMR) systems?
Yes. The module can be used in various MicroNet and MicroNet Plus chassis configurations, provided the application software is configured for 8-channel analog output.

Q3: What happens during a Loss of Communication event?
Through GAP configuration, the module can either hold the last valid output value or transition to a predefined safe state (e.g., 0 mA or 4 mA) if CPU communication is lost.
