Product Description

The 1747-SDN (Part Number: 1747-SDN) is a high-performance interface module designed to integrate the Allen-Bradley SLC 500 controller platform with a DeviceNet network. Operating as a master or slave device, this scanner facilitates seamless data exchange between the processor and distributed I/O, sensors, and actuators. It supports multiple data triggering mechanisms, including Polled, Cyclic, Change-of-State (COS), and Bit-Strobe modes, to optimize network bandwidth and response times.

A key feature of the 1747-SDN is its pass-through bridging functionality, which enables engineers to route communication from a separate configuration computer through the SLC chassis to the DeviceNet network. This eliminates the need for external hardware like the 1770-KFD or 1784-PCID cards during commissioning and troubleshooting.

Application Scenarios

The 1747-SDN is typically used in distributed control systems where long-distance wiring to sensors is required, such as:

  • Conveyor systems

  • Material handling

  • Motor control centers (MCCs)

  • PowerFlex drives over DeviceNet

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the node address configured for this module?

  • The node address and baud rate are typically set via software (RSNetWorx for DeviceNet) or can be assigned through the SLC processor logic during initialization.

Does this module require external power?

  • Yes, while the module draws power from the SLC backplane for its internal logic, the DeviceNet network connection itself requires a separate 24V DC power supply to power the transceiver and bus.
