Description

The Foxboro FBM202 is a high-performance 8-channel isolated thermocouple input module designed for the I/A Series distributed control system. This module interfaces directly with standard thermocouple sensors (Types J, K, T, E, R, S, B, and N) and millivolt signals, providing precise temperature data to the controller backplane. By providing individual channel-to-channel isolation, the FBM202 effectively eliminates ground loop interference and protects control logic from field-side transients. It is a critical component for temperature monitoring in oil refineries, petrochemical plants, and power generation facilities.

Features

  • 8-Channel Input: Supports a wide range of thermocouple types and millivolt signals.
  • Galvanic Isolation: Independent channel-to-channel and channel-to-ground isolation up to 600 V AC.
  • Hot-Swappable: Designed for replacement without de-energizing the baseplate, minimizing downtime.
  • Cold Junction Compensation: Integrated automatic CJC for high-fidelity measurements.
  • Configurable Filtering: Software-adjustable integration times to reject 50 Hz or 60 Hz line noise.
  • Redundant Communication: Dual Fieldbus paths ensure continuous data flow.

Applications

The FBM202 is primarily utilized in industrial automation environments requiring high-density, reliable temperature sensing. Common applications include boiler monitoring, furnace control, chemical reactor temperature tracking, and general process temperature acquisition within I/A Series control networks.

Installation Guidelines

  • Handling: Use standard ESD precautions when handling the module to prevent damage to internal circuitry.
  • Mounting: Ensure the module is fully seated in the designated I/A Series baseplate slot to maintain proper electrical contact.
  • Wiring: Use shielded thermocouple extension wire to minimize noise pickup. Ensure proper polarity is maintained for all sensor inputs.
  • Environment: While rated for G3 harsh environments, ensure the cabinet is adequately ventilated to maintain operating temperatures within the specified -20 to +70 deg C range.
  • Maintenance: Always verify the integrity of the terminal assembly connections during module installation or replacement.

FAQ

Is the FBM202 compatible with all I/A Series baseplates?

The FBM202 is designed for standard I/A Series baseplates. Please verify your specific baseplate revision and power supply configuration to ensure compatibility with the module's power requirements.

Does this module require external power for the sensors?

The FBM202 is designed to read passive thermocouple signals directly. It does not require external excitation for the thermocouples themselves, though it does require the standard 24V DC power provided by the I/A Series baseplate.
