Description

The MVI69E-MBTCP is a high-performance Modbus TCP/IP Enhanced Communication Module engineered specifically for the Allen-Bradley 1769 CompactLogix platform. This single-slot module allows a CompactLogix processor to interface seamlessly with up to 20 simultaneous Modbus Client connections over a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet link. By offloading the Modbus protocol stack from the primary CPU, it ensures that communication tasks do not interfere with control logic scan times, maintaining deterministic throughput in mission-critical applications.

Features

  • Client/Server Versatility: Supports up to 20 Client connections with 16 commands per connection, while also functioning as a Modbus Server.
  • Advanced Data Handling: Native support for floating-point data movement, including configurable implementations for Enron and Daniel registers.
  • High-Capacity Database: Features a 10,000-word data database for centralized field data management.
  • Configurable I/O: Backplane I/O size is configurable to 60, 120, or 240 16-bit integers for optimized data transfer.
  • Integrated Diagnostics: Four front-panel LED indicators provide real-time status for configuration, application health, and backplane connectivity.

Applications

This module is widely deployed in automated power substations, high-capacity water treatment facilities, and complex food and beverage production lines where reliable integration of Modbus TCP/IP devices into a CompactLogix architecture is required.

Installation Guidelines

  • Slot Placement: The module must be installed within 4 slots of the power supply due to the distance rating of 4.
  • Configuration: Requires ProSoft Configuration Builder (PCB) software for IP addressing and command structure setup.
  • Handling: Ensure the power is disconnected from the 1769 rack before inserting or removing the module to prevent electrical damage.
  • Environment: Ensure adequate ventilation within the control cabinet to maintain operating temperatures below 60 degC.
  • Grounding: Follow standard industrial grounding practices for the 1769 backplane to minimize EMI/RFI interference.

FAQ

Does this module require external power?

No, the MVI69E-MBTCP draws its power directly from the 1769 backplane. It consumes 500 mA at 5.1 VDC.

Can this module act as both a Client and a Server?

Yes, the module is designed to support both roles simultaneously, allowing it to initiate requests as a Client and respond to external requests as a Server.
