Product Description

The 8237-1369 is a high-integrity overspeed protection controller from the ProTech-GII series developed by Woodward, Inc.. It is engineered for safety-critical turbine applications including steam, gas, and hydro turbines, providing continuous real-time monitoring of rotational speed and acceleration trends.

The system uses Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) architecture with 2oo3 voting logic, ensuring high system availability and fault tolerance. If one module fails, the remaining modules continue providing full overspeed protection without causing nuisance trips.

The module also supports periodic automated self-testing of trip circuits without requiring turbine shutdown. Its conformal coating provides strong resistance against corrosive industrial gases such as H₂S and SO₂, making it suitable for refinery, offshore, and heavy industrial environments.

FAQ

Can the system be serviced while the turbine is running?
Yes. The TMR architecture allows individual module servicing while the remaining modules maintain protection logic.

How does acceleration detection help?
It detects abnormal speed increase trends and can initiate shutdown before reaching the absolute overspeed threshold.

Is it resistant to corrosive gases?
Yes. The protective conformal coating resists H₂S and SO₂ corrosion effects.
