Product Description

The 140ACI03000 is an 8-channel differential Analog Input (AI) module for the Modicon Quantum platform by Schneider Electric. It is designed for high-accuracy signal acquisition in electrically noisy industrial environments.

Unlike single-ended modules, the 140ACI03000 uses differential inputs, effectively rejecting common-mode noise and minimizing ground loop interference. It supports both 4–20 mA current loops and 1–5 V DC voltage inputs, offering flexibility for various field transmitters.

With a fast 5 ms update time, 12-bit resolution, and integrated diagnostics (broken wire and undervoltage detection), the module ensures reliable and stable data delivery for PID control loops and safety-critical monitoring. A built-in low-pass filter (-3 dB at 15 Hz) attenuates high-frequency noise before signal processing.

Application

The 140ACI03000 is ideal for:

  • Turbine monitoring systems in power plants

  • Chemical reactor temperature and pressure measurement

  • Water treatment flow and level monitoring

  • Long-distance sensor installations with high EMI exposure

Its differential architecture makes it particularly effective when sensors operate on different ground references or are located far from the PLC rack.

FAQ

Q1: What is the advantage of differential inputs?
Differential inputs measure the voltage difference between two conductors, rejecting noise that appears equally on both wires and minimizing ground loop errors.

Q2: Can voltage and current inputs be mixed?
Yes. Each channel can be configured independently for 4–20 mA or 1–5 V, provided the wiring matches the selected signal type.

Q3: Does the module require external power?
The module logic is powered by the Quantum backplane. However, field transmitters typically require an external 24 V DC supply.
